Testing and Procedures

Pulmonary Function Test
This test done in our office provides a means of assessing a patient’s breathing function and capacity.

What To Expect When You Have A Pulmonary Function Test

With guidance the patient is asked to blow into a tube as forcefully as possible. A machine attached to the tube gives readings, which may indicate asthma or monitor conditions such as emphysema. It can also be a useful tool for pre-operative assessment in some patients.

No preparation is needed.

Sigmoidoscopy

A sigmoidoscopy is a test done in the office, as there is no sedation or anesthesia required. Before scheduling, please review with your physician if this is the appropriate test for you as different colon screening tests are done for different conditions, symptoms, or history.

What To Expect When You Have A Sigmoidoscopy

During the exam a small tube is passed through the rectal area to visualize the sigmoid portion of the colon through fiber optics. The test usually takes about 20-25 minutes to complete.

Patient Preparation

Patients are instructed to eat lightly the day before the examination and especially for the dinner meal. On the day of the examination, you will need to give yourself an enema 2 hours before and again 1 hour before the test. In addition, your physician may recommend an over-the-counter laxative drink to assist in your preparations.
